A rippled border around a plain center
The broad rim rises away from the plain center in a sequence of soft ripples, giving the rectangular outline a less rigid appearance. Those repeated folds continue around the ends as well as along the long sides, so the frame remains visible from different places at the table. The undivided center provides one continuous area for food rather than separate wells. Keep the decorative border mostly clear and place the main ingredients inside it, allowing the white edge to distinguish the food from the tabletop. The overall 13⅞-by-7½-inch dimensions are useful when planning the place setting alongside a bowl, drinking vessel or separate dipping dish.
