Restore the working edge
Use the K-45 for the medium-sharpening stage when a kitchen knife has become dull. Its 1000-grit surface sits between a coarse stone used for substantial edge repair and a fine stone used for a more refined finish.
Let the condition of the blade determine the sequence. A badly chipped edge needs repair before routine sharpening; an already sharpened edge can move to a finer finishing stone if the knife and intended task call for it.
